Brixworth Neighbourhood Development Plan 2011-2029

Brixworth Neighbourhood Development Plan will form part of the Local Plan for Daventry District and will be used in the determination of planning applications within the Brixworth Parish. The plan has been drawn up following extensive interviews and answers to a questionnaire delivered to all residents last year. It has to comply with National and Local Government requirements as well as EU Law and must not be anti development as that will be counter to government policy and be disallowed.  Brixworth has seen rapid housing growth over recent years – beyond that envisaged for the area. Residents feel that future housing growth should be limited because the shops, roads, school and medical facilities are at or near capacity for the present population. It is felt that a development at the village entrance on Northampton Road (Barratts Phase 2) should be the last large piece of the development jigsaw for the period of the plan. Required infrastructure improvements arising from this development include a new and enlarged doctors’ surgery with car parking, advance funding to increase the capacity at the school and additional parking at the Library & Community Centre.

Protection of the surrounding countryside is an important feature of the Neighbourhood Development Plan and proposes that the fields around the village are important to its setting and deserve protection. The Plan supports infill development providing that it is in harmony with its surroundings, is of small scale, is environmentally efficient and has adequate car park provision. The plan promotes the protection of vital community services, open spaces, footpaths, community buildings and the Conservation Area. It also highlights the valued views into and from the village and builds on the work of the Village Design Statement. The draft plan has been prepared by The Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group, who are all residents and volunteers. It  has been submitted to a range of statutory organisations for their comments and has been examined by an Examiner who has made certain recommendations to DDC. The plan will be finalised and published during Autumn 2016. It is then expected that all Brixworth residents will have the opportunity to vote in a referendum on whether to accept.
